THE AREA

THE DEVELOPMENT takes its name from nearby Casares, a picturesque mountainside village much featured in travel brochures.

Estepona, an interesting Spanish town with its markets, squares, shops and hypermarket boasts an elegant promenade and is about 10 minutes drive to the east.

The local village, Sabinillas, until recently a typical Spanish fishing village, is now an attractive seaside community. Its fish restaurants, while not too sophisticated enjoy an excellent reputation having been featured in 'The Times' and elsewhere. A new promenade has attracted additional cafes and bars overlooking the Mediterranean sea. The coastline is backed by beautiful mountains, with many scenic drives, which elude the package tourist. The ancient Roman town of Ronda, with its bull ring (one of the oldest in Spain) and the spectacular gorge offers a superb day out. It can be reached by road or rail both of which offer trips of scenic grandeur.

The sophisticated 'jet set' resorts of Marbella and Puerto Banus need no introduction and are only half an hour up the coast.

Virtually next door to Marina de Casares is the exclusive yacht harbour of Puerto de la Duquesa with its convivial harbourside restaurants and bars, discotheques and exclusive shops. And no traffic!

HOW TO GET THERE

GIBRALTAR AIRPORT, some 30 minutes drive (after clearing border formalities which can take a variable time), or Malaga, 75 minutes (via the new dual carriageway), are the main points of access from the UK, though some people regularly drive from the channel ports or from Santander and Bilboa.

As there are not many centres of habitation close at hand, apart from the coastal strip, a car is pretty much a necessity. There are two local supermarkets and the nearest hypermarket is 15 minutes drive through Estepona. The most beautiful and interesting places to visit are accessible only by car.

CAR HIRE

Car hire is widely available offering Gibraltar of Malaga Airport pick-up.

A number of UK companies provide this service with hire charges payable in the UK, leaving the hirer to simply collect the car at the selected airport.
